About Edexcel IGCSE Biology past papers
This page holds 51 question papers and 49 mark schemes for IGCSE Biology, covering 21 exam sittings from 2014 to 2024. Every paper is free to open, with no account and no download limit, and each one sits beside its mark scheme so you can mark your own work the way an examiner would. The most recent sitting here is May 2024.
The units covered are P1B, P2B, P1, P2, P1BR and P2BR. Papers appear under more than one specification code — 4BI0 and 4BI1 — because the qualification has been revised during this period. Older papers remain useful: most of the subject content carries over, and the extra practice is worth more than a tidy archive. Each paper is labelled with its own code so you can see which generation it belongs to. Papers marked R are replacement papers, set for a different time zone. They cover the same specification to the same standard, and because fewer students work through them they are a good choice when you want a paper you have not already seen.
Papers here come from the January, May, June, October and November series — about 1.9 sittings a year across the 11 years covered, which is why there is usually a recent paper available whichever session you are entered for. 2 of the question papers here do not yet have their mark scheme beside them; the rest are complete pairs. If you need one of the missing schemes, tell us and it usually goes up within a few days.
Revising Biology
Biology looks like the subject you can revise by reading. It is the one where that strategy fails most reliably.
The content is broad and mostly familiar, which makes it easy to feel prepared. The marks, though, come from using precise biological vocabulary and from applying what you know to an unfamiliar context — a plant, an experiment or an organism you have never been taught about. That skill only develops by doing questions.
Mark schemes here are unusually specific about wording. "Lets things through" earns nothing where "allows water to pass by osmosis" earns the mark. When you mark your own work, check the exact term, not the general idea.
Give the data questions real attention: reading a graph, describing a trend precisely and quoting figures from it is a repeatable skill worth several marks in every paper.
