About Edexcel IGCSE ICT past papers

This page holds 24 question papers and 22 mark schemes for IGCSE ICT, covering 12 exam sittings from 2014 to 2024. Every paper is free to open, with no account and no download limit, and each one sits beside its mark scheme so you can mark your own work the way an examiner would. The most recent sitting here is May 2024.

The units covered are P1, P1R and P2. All papers here carry the specification code 4IT1. Papers marked R are replacement papers, set for a different time zone. They cover the same specification to the same standard, and because fewer students work through them they are a good choice when you want a paper you have not already seen.

Papers here come from the May, June and November series — about 1.1 sittings a year across the 11 years covered, which is why there is usually a recent paper available whichever session you are entered for. 2 of the question papers here do not yet have their mark scheme beside them; the rest are complete pairs. If you need one of the missing schemes, tell us and it usually goes up within a few days.

Revising ICT

ICT is sat as a written paper and a practical one, and students routinely under-prepare for the written half.

Keep a glossary as you revise. ICT mark schemes reward the correct term — validation rather than "checking", for instance — and a page of terms tested weekly is worth more here than rereading a chapter.

When a question describes an organisation and asks which technology suits it, the marks are for the match, not the description. Name the feature, then say what it does for that particular organisation.

The theory paper asks for precise terminology and for explanations of why a particular technology suits a described situation. Vague answers about things being "faster" or "easier" earn little; naming the specific benefit in the context given earns the mark.

For the practical work, the skill is efficiency under time pressure. Practise the common tasks until the mechanics are automatic, so the time in the exam goes on getting the task right rather than hunting for a menu.
