About Edexcel IGCSE Commerce past papers

This page holds 20 question papers and 16 mark schemes for IGCSE Commerce, covering 9 exam sittings from 2020 to 2024. Every paper is free to open, with no account and no download limit, and each one sits beside its mark scheme so you can mark your own work the way an examiner would. The most recent sitting here is May 2024.

The units covered are P1, P1R, P2 and P2R. All papers here carry the specification code 4CM1. Papers marked R are replacement papers, set for a different time zone. They cover the same specification to the same standard, and because fewer students work through them they are a good choice when you want a paper you have not already seen.

Papers here come from the January, May and November series — about 1.8 sittings a year across the 5 years covered, which is why there is usually a recent paper available whichever session you are entered for. 4 of the question papers here do not yet have their mark scheme beside them; the rest are complete pairs. If you need one of the missing schemes, tell us and it usually goes up within a few days.

Revising Commerce

Commerce covers trade, finance, transport, insurance and the services that support business — a broad set of topics with a lot of defined terms.

Watch the difference between a question asking what something is and one asking why a business would choose it. The first wants a definition; the second wants a reason tied to the situation described. Answering the wrong one is the most common way marks are lost here.

Several topics — documents used in trade, methods of payment, types of insurance — are lists that can simply be learned. They recur sitting after sitting and are among the quickest marks in the paper to secure.

The definitions are worth memorising properly, because many questions begin by asking for one. They are the quickest marks in the paper.

Beyond that, the longer answers reward applying a concept to a described situation rather than reciting it. Treat the context in the question as instructions for what your answer should mention.
