About Edexcel IAL Chemistry past papers
This page holds 145 question papers and 142 mark schemes for IAL Chemistry, covering 26 exam sittings from 2014 to 2024. Every paper is free to open, with no account and no download limit, and each one sits beside its mark scheme so you can mark your own work the way an examiner would. The most recent sitting here is May 2024.
The units covered are U1, U2, U3, U4, U5, U6 and P1. Papers appear under more than one specification code — CHEM, WCH01, WCH02, WCH03, WCH06, WCH04, WCH05, WCH11, WCH12, WCH13, WCH14, WCH15 and WCH16 — because the qualification has been revised during this period. Older papers remain useful: most of the subject content carries over, and the extra practice is worth more than a tidy archive. Each paper is labelled with its own code so you can see which generation it belongs to.
Papers here come from the January, May, June and October series — about 2.4 sittings a year across the 11 years covered, which is why there is usually a recent paper available whichever session you are entered for. 3 of the question papers here do not yet have their mark scheme beside them; the rest are complete pairs. If you need one of the missing schemes, tell us and it usually goes up within a few days.
Revising Chemistry
IAL Chemistry is sat as separate units, with the organic and physical content building across them.
Organic mechanisms reward drilling. Curly arrows, conditions and reagents are precise, repeat across sittings, and are marked strictly — learning them properly is some of the highest-return revision available in this subject.
The calculation questions, particularly around moles, equilibria and energetics, need working set out in full. Method marks survive an arithmetic slip; a bare wrong answer does not.
The practical-based unit is not a theory paper in disguise. Revise technique, sources of error and how to improve a method, because that is what is actually asked.
