About Edexcel IAL Mathematics past papers
This page holds 204 question papers and 197 mark schemes for IAL Mathematics, covering 31 exam sittings from 2014 to 2024. Every paper is free to open, with no account and no download limit, and each one sits beside its mark scheme so you can mark your own work the way an examiner would. The most recent sitting here is May 2024.
The units covered are D1, FP1, FP2, FP3, M1, M2, M3, P1, P1R, P2, P2R, P3, P4, S1, S2, S3, U1, U2, U3, U4, C12, C34 and P19. Papers appear under more than one specification code — WMA01, WMA02, WMA14, WDM11, WFM02, WMA13, WFM03 and WMA12 — because the qualification has been revised during this period. Older papers remain useful: most of the subject content carries over, and the extra practice is worth more than a tidy archive. Each paper is labelled with its own code so you can see which generation it belongs to. Papers marked R are replacement papers, set for a different time zone. They cover the same specification to the same standard, and because fewer students work through them they are a good choice when you want a paper you have not already seen.
Papers here come from the January, May, June, October and November series — about 2.8 sittings a year across the 11 years covered, which is why there is usually a recent paper available whichever session you are entered for. 7 of the question papers here do not yet have their mark scheme beside them; the rest are complete pairs. If you need one of the missing schemes, tell us and it usually goes up within a few days.
Revising Mathematics
IAL Mathematics is built from units: Pure papers plus applied units in Mechanics, Statistics, Decision or Further Pure.
Which applied units you sit depends on your centre, so check before revising. A student taking Mechanics gains nothing from Statistics papers, and the two are examined completely differently — Mechanics on modelling physical situations, Statistics on distributions and interpreting data.
The Pure units run P1 to P4 and build in sequence: the techniques in P1 reappear inside harder P3 and P4 questions. Working backwards through the Pure papers, oldest first, is a good way to see that progression.
Method marks dominate. On a multi-step question, an examiner who can follow your reasoning awards marks for every correct stage, which is why fully written solutions beat quick ones even when the answer is right.
