About Edexcel IAL Psychology past papers

This page holds 36 question papers and 35 mark schemes for IAL Psychology, covering 14 exam sittings from 2017 to 2024. Every paper is free to open, with no account and no download limit, and each one sits beside its mark scheme so you can mark your own work the way an examiner would. The most recent sitting here is January 2024.

The units covered are U1, U2, U3, U4, P3 and P4. Papers appear under more than one specification code — WPS04, WPS03, WPS01, WPS02 and 2019 — because the qualification has been revised during this period. Older papers remain useful: most of the subject content carries over, and the extra practice is worth more than a tidy archive. Each paper is labelled with its own code so you can see which generation it belongs to.

Papers here come from the January, May, June and November series — about 1.8 sittings a year across the 8 years covered, which is why there is usually a recent paper available whichever session you are entered for. 1 of the question papers here do not yet have their mark scheme beside them; the rest are complete pairs. If you need one of the missing schemes, tell us and it usually goes up within a few days.

Revising Psychology

IAL Psychology tests whether you can evaluate studies and methods, not whether you can recall them.

Learn two or three well-chosen studies per topic rather than skimming many. A specific study, named and described accurately, supports an argument in a way that a general statement cannot.

Practise the shorter research-methods questions regularly — they carry reliable marks, appear in every paper, and take far less time to revise than another essay plan.

Learn the core studies in a consistent shape: aim, method, findings, conclusion, and the criticisms of each. That structure makes them far easier to retrieve under pressure than reading them as prose.

Research methods run through every unit and are the most reliably examined content in the subject. Sampling, ethics, reliability and validity come up constantly, and are quick to revise relative to the marks they carry.

For essay questions, evidence beats assertion. A specific named study supporting a point is worth more than another sentence of general argument.
